What to ask before you book
Four questions do most of the work of separating a thorough company from a rushed one.
What does the inspection actually cover?
1- Whether they check for the moisture source, not just the visible growth, and whether that inspection is included in the quote or billed separately
An inspection that stops at what is visible is not the same as one that looks for why it is there.
Is containment part of the plan?
1- Whether the affected area gets sealed off during work, particularly relevant for larger jobs or occupied homes
Containment protects the rest of the home during the job, not just the immediate area.
Will they fix the moisture source, or only the growth?
1- Whether repairing the underlying leak, ventilation gap, or drainage issue is included, or left to a separate contractor
This is the single question most likely to predict whether the problem actually stays gone.
What happens if it comes back?
1- Whether there is any follow-up or guarantee if the same area shows growth again within a reasonable window
Answers vary a lot here, and it is worth getting this in writing rather than as a verbal assurance.
